The video of two children hanging from the 13th floor balcony in an apartment in China has gone viral, causing people to be worried and angry. Emphasis has been laid on the safety of the balcony railing.

The balcony is a beautiful part of the house from where you can enjoy open air. But if the balcony railing is not safe, it can become a big threat, especially for children and the elderly. Therefore, while making the design of the balcony, it is necessary to give priority not just looks, but also to safety. There is a strong need for security in the balcony railing in the houses living at height. Low height, thick gap or chronic iron texture can become a threat to children. Experts suggest that the height of the railing should be at least 1.1–1.2 meters and the design should be such that children do not get their heads or hands in it. Along with this, avoid leaving the children without surveillance. Children should not be left alone on woolen places of the house, such as balcony or roof. Also, in addition to electronic grills, apply pifailors (plastic or mesh grills) which are stronger.
The gap between the railing should not be more than 4 inches. If the gap is large, children can remove their head or body, which can lead to an accident. Use stainless steel, tempered glass or strong iron for balcony railing. These materials last long and reduce the risk of breaking up. Children can climb on horizontal bar design, so the use of vertical bar is more secure. If you want a modern look, then a temporary glass panel is a good option. It not only looks beautiful, but there is no gap in the middle, which ends the risk of falling.
